If you wonder how it’s going as an Indie developer, well I can tell you… It’s awesome and it’s very tiring.
Doing YOUR stuffs is a great thing, but until you get paid, moreover paid well… it’s likely that you have some contract works just as I have. I work 3 days from a week in the business industry. This day was one of them… And now I’m collecting contacts into my CRM system, and I post some lines here. Yes, these are included in the package called “indie developer life”.
Needless to say: It’s worth it.
That’s my first post… on my own blog! Wow! One small step for a man… Well, eventually i was able to build the very first version of my homepage, blog and forum. I used bootstrap and some usual css/html stuffs to my homepage, and wordpress to create my blog and forum.
WordPress offers a free plugin to establish your forum faster which is called “bb Press“. It’s pretty fine until you would like to unable users to post new topics. For that scenario I found a small plugin (used by only 7 people including myself) to restrict them. It’s called “bbP Toolkit” and I strongly recommend it because it has many other features and it’s free.
Templates for WordPress are kinda messy. There are just way too much for given purposes, but I wanted a simple but still deeply customizable one. After I failed to find any on the wordpress themes finder page, I tried to find old free to download premium templates. These old ones (actually mine is from 2009) are pretty simple and give the desired customization options. The only thing that I had to do for them to opt in to a newsletter.
I know that my sites are still just “OK”, but I think they are totally acceptable. Later on when I will have some income from my strategy games, I will hire some freelancers to make better sites.
I hope you read here some useful stuffs. Cheers!
